Cuttings 22 - Sound Mapping

In a different module, 'Performance and the Contemporary City', we were discussing sound-mapping and the soundtracks which purposefully (e.g. audio guides, iPods) or naturally (e.g. traffic sounds) accompany urban spaces.
The role of noise and sound, let alone music, in our everyday lives became very apparent. It is such an intergral part of our experience thats its largely I think taken for granted. I wonder how much a song can incorporate the sounds of its environment within its music and lyrics and be linked to a particular place. And then how it would alter the song to be performed in and out of that specific location. Just an idea.
